Commissioning furniture

You may have been unsuccessfully searching for a specific item for some time and be clear what you want. You may have been inspired by seeing my work in a gallery or at an exhibition but want help focusing your ambitions. In either case I will work closely with you to realise your project and ensure that commissioning a piece of furniture is an enjoyable journey for you as well as for me. The process is an organic one which must be taken in stages with regular consultation to give you confidence that you will treasure the end result.

If possible, I would initially like to see the intended setting for the piece. This will provide ideas as well as making me aware of constraints. I can listen to your response to photographs of my past work and hear your hopes and concerns. After this, I will need time to reflect and come up with ideas.

I will prepare sketches and samples, possibly even a model, together with preliminary costings and timescales. These can be amended in response to your reactions until we decide on a final design so that I can provide a firm price and completion date.

Only when you are happy will I ask for an initial payment of half of the price and commence the work. The balance is due on completion. I will maintain your involvement in the project during construction with regular reports and visits so that you can appreciate the craftsmanship being wrought on your behalf.

It is my intention that when we reach the final exciting stage of unveiling the finished work in your home you will feel real ownership and pride.

But the first move is yours: give me a ring, or send an email, and tell me about your plans.
